Grandpa
I heard the news today…and I'm numb
I can't believe you're gone, although I know its true.
But I'm glad I have so many good memories.
You taught me how to play crib
And you tried hard to teach me how to swim
(I'll admit I still haven't learned).
I'll remember the trip we took to Big White Mountain
The passing motorist motioned a warning
On the dusty road "roll up your window!"
You gestured right back at him,
Not understanding he was trying to help you, not insult you
You shocked us and made us laugh,
But you laughed with us later
When we explained the misunderstanding.
I remember how you walked me down the aisle
You looked so handsome in your suit.
I remember straightening your tie,
And holding your arm
Feeling proud to show the world
My awesome Grandpa
You shed emotional tears at my wedding,
Proving to me how much it meant to you too.
I loved the way you made that sound,
You know the way you cuckooed with your hand?
I'm glad my four-year-old daughter calls you
By a different name "The grandpa that tickles"
She'll always remember you making her laugh.
And I'll always remember my last words to you
"I love you Grandpa"
And your last words to me,
"I love you too dear".
I'll miss you forever.
Your granddaughter, Tina.
